This is the underdrawing for a new painting I'm starting. Usually I do an underpainting in raw umber paint on the canvas with linseed oil, but this time, I wanted to dry vine charcoal sprayed with fixative. I liked drawing on the stretched canvas and how much more durable it felt than paper, no matter how many times you rubbed off an area. The colors in this painting will be really exciting to paint--the background has whites and light pear-colored greens combined with her skin, which has really strong pinkish hues to make a beautiful complimentary color palette.
